In this workshop participants will make a nopal self-portrait with prepped papier mache nopal pads. Students will paint a self-portrait of themselves or an alter ego on the textured pads that will sit onto a planter which students will then paint. Participants will complete their mixed media sculpture by adding toothpicks "picos" and adorning their portraits with craft materials. These non-traditional portraits will assist students in creating expressions of identity through regional references by expanding the student’s ideas of expression through material.
